Notes: Wounded in the attack on the Turkish-held Balkan Gun Pits, Anzac, 28th June 1915: 'The 5th Regiment moved along Harris Ridge as far as the Balkan Gun Pits, where they were subjected to heavy machine gun and rifle fire from the Echelon trenches, and also from Gaba Tepe. They were also subjected to shell fire from one of our destroyers, the commander of which had not been informed that our men were operating outside our own lines.... The Regiment's casualties during the afternoon were heavy, amounting to 23 killed and 79 wounded.' (Wilson p19). See also the record for DELPRATT, Sgt. M.G., taken prisoner. For a more detailed account of the operation and diagrams, see Bean V2 p295-9. Bean (V2 p299) states that 24 were killed in the operation, 79 - including 5 officers - wounded.
